The hilly land measurement system
In the hilly regions of Nepal, including the Kathmandu Valley, land is measured in Ropani, Aana, Paisa and Daam. The units nest inside each other: one Ropani equals 16 Aana, each Aana is 4 Paisa, and each Paisa is 4 Daam — so one Ropani contains 256 Daam. In area terms, 1 Ropani ≈ 5,476 square feet or about 508.72 square metres. This converter turns any mix of these units into square feet and square metres, and converts a plain area back into a clean Ropani-Aana breakdown.

Terai vs. hilly systems
This tool covers the hilly system used in Kathmandu and most mid-hill districts. The Terai (plains) uses a different system based on Bigha, Kattha and Dhur, where 1 Bigha = 20 Kattha and 1 Kattha = 20 Dhur. If your land document uses Bigha, the Ropani figures here will not apply — the two systems measure different regions and are not interchangeable.
