How age is calculated
Your age is the exact difference between your date of birth and the chosen date, expressed in complete years, months and days. The calculator borrows days from the previous calendar month when needed, so a birth on the 31st is handled correctly across months of different lengths, and leap years are counted from the real calendar rather than an assumed 365-day year. It also totals your life in months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds, and counts down to your next birthday.
Why the "age as of" field matters
By default the tool calculates age as of today, but you can set any target date. This is what makes it useful beyond curiosity: you can check whether someone meets a minimum or maximum age on a specific day rather than right now.
Common uses
- Confirming eligibility for a job, government exam, driving licence, passport or pension on the relevant cut-off date.
- Working out a child's exact age for school admission or vaccination schedules.
- Finding the precise gap in age between two people, or between two events.
- Counting down the days to a birthday, anniversary or milestone.
